stimulating growth
STUDIO URBANISm (Ndna - high denisty social housing)
Growth in human life is essential to the wellbeing and sustainable development of the earth we all call home. Through providing a safe and protected environment, ‘Stimulating Growth’ explores the necessary foundation for sustainable and biophilic living.
The form inspired directly by the ‘Sugar Gum’ found naturally only in South Australia and in the eastern parklands provides an organic and nature filled space allowing residents to feel at home from all walks of life. The floors resemble the tree growth rings while the site engages four clusters of flowers. Skill sharing studios engage residents and provide opportunity to further creative and self-sustaining skills. Providing tools and workshops allows one to flourish personally in health, skills, and confidence. Work opportunities are present for residents through the maintenance and upkeep of the ever-growing greenspaces. The consistency of a familiar face allows residences to feel connected and part of the community. Sunlight and water is essential to plant and human growth. Each apartment is specifically orientated to allow for maximum sunlight while the exterior framework provides a recycled water irrigation to all floors. Apartments are flexible allowing a set up personal to each resident.
Stimulating growth is an ever-evolving environment, adapting and growing to meet the sustaining needs of human life.
